Italy’s senate budget committee has approved a proposal to introduce a 6 percent levy on digital sales. The so-called “web tax” is expected to bring an extra €114 million per year into the Italian treasury’s coffers when it comes into force from January 2019. Under the proposal, reviewed by senators this weekend, a flat rate tax will apply to sales of digital services such as online advertizing. Italy's interior ministry said the man, whose nationality was not given, was arrested in Castello di Cistea in Naples after investigators monitoring the inteet found a video of an Islamic State group decapitation on his Facebook page. Police discovered weapons including three home-made mortar shells, two electronic devices for setting off explosives at a distance, 146 fuses, various detonators and a remote control, the ministry said in a statement. As well as serving as president from 1999 to 2006, Ciampi was prime minister of a caretaker govement of technocrats from 1993 to 1994. As treasury minister in the late 1990s he played an important role in Italy’s adoption of the euro as its currency. The news was broken by Italy's current prime minister, Matteo Renzi, who tweeted his govement's condolences to Ciampi's widow, and paid tribute to the former head of state: "A thought of gratitude goes to a man of the institutions, who served Italy with passion", he said. Italy's unemployment rate fell to 11.5 percent in May, Istat, the national statistics office, said on Friday. The rate was down from 11.6 percent in April. The agency said the number of people in employment rose to 57.1 percent during May, an increase of 0.1 of a percentage point. Youth unemployment, meanwhile, is steady at 36.9 percent.  There were 299,000 more people in work in May than in the same month last year, Istat said, while 175,000 fewer were claiming unemployment benefit.
