Human legs found in trash bin in Rome

Police have found a severed pair of legs in a a street trash container.

The legs were found on via Maresciallo Pilsudski in the Parioli zone of Rome by a 20-year-old girl who was emptying her rubbish. 

The legs were sawn off and dumped into the trash container the night before, according to a police spokesperson cited in Repubblica. 

The rest of the body has not yet been found, according to a report in La Stampa. The legs are believed to be a woman's. 

The body cannot be identified through digital prints with the legs alone. 

Police in Rome are analysing the footage from nearby CCTV cameras and are consulting reports of people recently declared missing in an effort to resolve the gruesome crime.  

A man was seen walking away from the trash can on Monday night, when the legs were dumped according to forensic analysis, and his numberplate has been partly identified, according to a further report in Repubblica.

The horrific crime is reminiscent of a case in 2011 when the legless and headless body of a woman was found in a field in Rome.
