Italian base jumper killed while filming Swiss Alps stunt

The 29-year-old became an online sensation through his dangerous stunt videos, including one in which he jumps through a ring of fire.

His team said he died while filming a video for GoPro, the US manufacturer of action cameras, in Lauterbrunnen, in the Swiss Alps.

Police in the Swiss canton said the accident happened on Wednesday, as he jumped from the 'Black Line' peak at Stechelberg but lost control of his route before hitting the cliffside and dying.

Born in Alto Adige, Emanuele began his career as a parachutist but in recent years focussed on base jumping and wingsuit flying.

Tributes poured in on social media.

Edoardo Giglio wrote on Facebook: “One of the best people I ever met. One of those few people that have the ability to expand your mind limits and make you see the world from a different point of view.

"Uli Emanuele you have always been my hero and you will forever be. People like you are very rare, extremely modest although insanely talented.”
