Nurse accused of killing 13 patients in Italian hospital

The woman is suspected of murdering the patients, who were hospitalized for various conditions in the Piombino’s anaesthesia and intensive care unit, between 2014 and 2015, La Repubblica reported.

The 55-year-old, from Savona, allegedly killed the patients with medication that was not prescribed for their treatment. She had been in the Tuscan region since the early 1980s, Ansa reported.

She was arrested early on Thursday moing and is being held in custody at a prison in Pisa.

The arrest comes amid the ongoing trial of ex-nurse Daniele Poggiali, who is accused of killing as many as 87 patients with hefty doses of potassium chloride at Umberto I di Lugo hospital in Ravea.

The 44-year-old also took selfies with some of the bodies. At the time of her arrest in October 2014, police said she killed the patients because she thought they - and their visiting families - were aoying.
